The first full weekend of August we set sail to Kansas. Ok obviously we did not take a boat to Kansas but we did take a good plane trip. We left super early on Thursday morning to head out of Dulles Airport. A bad thing about living so far out is that you have to be up at say 0200 to get to the airport for a 0520 departure. But it was worth it. Reason for our trip. To meet Trevor's family.
You may be a bit confused about what I just said. Hmmm. Well for those who do not know, my husband is fortunate enough to have two families. That is right two. Not the way most people have two families due to remarriages and divorces, but that he was adopted when he was just two weeks old. Yep you read that right. He was adopted and we went out to Kansas to see his biological family. And it was an awesome trip.
We found his parents when we were pregnant with Derek. We had some unusual things show up on the ultrasound and so we needed to know more on medical history. We met his mom and dad for the first time when Derek was about three months old. Since then we have kept in contact, sending school pictures, christmas cards, etc. Not too bad. This trip we finally got to meet his brother and sister for the first time. Yep. Trevor has another brother and sister. Amazing.
We started off our Kansas trip by meeting the family for dinner before heading to the Royals babseball game. It was a great time and everyone got along great. Also the Royals one after a great rally in the sixth. I know I know you want to know more about the family right. LOL. who cares about the game. Well Trevor and his brother definitely look like brothers. They even seem to have the same laid back attitude. Trevor fit right in. We did leave the game early cause my boys (Derek and Austin) were starting to be a little tired and it was really muggy out. Actually even Trevor started to fall asleep at the game. So we headed to our hotel and they headed home.
What is that it? Is that the only time you saw them. I know that is what you are thinking. Nope not at all. Saturday we went to their farm. Yep they have a farm at the top of Kansas. A good size one too. And we all had a blast. The boys enjoyed their time taking tractor rides, getting on the combine, and playing with all the John Deere toys. Oh my were they in high heaven. Trevor and I got to look at photos albums from when his brother and sister were little as they were growing up. We met more family. Grandma, Aunts, Uncles, cousins. It was a family affair. Of course we took many pictures. It is amazing at how well Trevor just fit right in. Now I know where he gets his laid back country side of things. The only difference that I could tell between him and his family was that they are chevy people and we are ford people. Who can complain. We spent probably about six hours there and that was not long enough. We definitely cannot wait to go back, but we had an early flight back home. Until next time, we will just have to cherish the memories we made there.
